The Suzuki GSX-R1000 is a sports motorcycle from Suzuki. It has been discontinued (production ended around 2018). Mechiee still services it at your doorstep. Sports bikes put performance first, usually with a sportier riding position and sharper handling than everyday bikes. With a 999 cc engine it sits in the big-bike, 800 cc-plus class.
Power comes from a 999 cc 4-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that makes 196 bhp at 13,200 rpm and 117.54 Nm of torque at 10,800 rpm. Peak torque comes high up, at 10,800 rpm, so it rewards revving. Its bore is wider than its stroke (70.0 mm x 48.7 mm), a short-stroke layout that generally favours higher revs. Divide power by kerb weight and it has about 994 PS per tonne; by that measure, its performance is at superbike level and rewards an experienced rider. It has electric start.
It has a 6-speed manual gearbox with a 1-down, 5-up shift pattern.
It is built around an aluminium twin spar frame. Suspension is by showa BPF, inverted telescopic forks at the front and showa rear shock, link type at the rear. Braking is by a disc at the front and a disc at the rear, with dual-channel ABS. ABS on both wheels keeps either tyre from locking under hard braking. It rides on alloy wheels with tubeless tyres — 120/70ZR17M/C (58W) at the front and 180/55ZR17M/C (73W) at the rear.
The seat is 825 mm off the ground, which is on the tall side, so shorter riders may want to try it first. It weighs 200 kg ready to ride, which is on the heavy side, so moving it by hand takes some effort. Ground clearance is 130 mm — low, so take speed breakers and steep ramps slowly. It is 2,040 mm long, with 1,409 mm between the axles. Its 16 L fuel tank and claimed mileage of 20 Kmpl work out to roughly 320 km per tankful on paper; real-world range is usually lower.
Equipment includes a digital instrument console, variable valve timing, slipper clutch and electronic steering damper. Safety equipment includes traction control.
For the Suzuki GSX-R1000, Mechiee offers a fixed ₹2,999 doorstep service.
It is best suited to riders who want performance and sharp handling. With this much performance, it is better as a step-up bike than a first bike.
