The Triumph Speed Twin 1200 is a cruiser motorcycle from Triumph. It was launched in 2019 and is still on sale. Cruisers are built for relaxed riding, typically with a low seat, a laid-back posture and an engine that pulls from low revs. With a 1,200 cc engine it sits in the big-bike, 800 cc-plus class.
Power comes from a 1,200 cc twin-cylinder liquid-cooled fuel-injected engine that makes 105 PS at 7,750 rpm and 112 Nm of torque at 4,250 rpm. Peak torque arrives low in the rev range, at 4,250 rpm, which makes it relaxed to ride in traffic. Its bore is wider than its stroke (97.6 mm x 80 mm), a short-stroke layout that generally favours higher revs. Divide power by kerb weight and it has about 486 PS per tonne; by that measure, its performance is at superbike level and rewards an experienced rider. It has electric start.
It has a 6-speed manual gearbox with a 1-down, 5-up shift pattern, and a chain carries drive to the rear wheel. It uses a wet multi-plate clutch.
Its frame is tubular steel, with steel cradles. At the front, the suspension is Ø43 mm USD marzocchi forks, travel - 120 mm. At the rear, it is twin marzocchi RSUs with external reservoirs and adjustable preload, wheel travel - 116 mm rear suspension. Braking is by twin 320 mm discs at the front and a 220 mm disc at the rear, with dual-channel ABS. ABS on both wheels keeps either tyre from locking under hard braking. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with tubeless tyres — 120/70 R17 at the front and 160/60 R17 at the rear.
The seat is 805 mm off the ground, which is about average and suits most riders. It weighs 216 kg ready to ride, which is on the heavy side, so moving it by hand takes some effort. Ground clearance is 140 mm — adequate, though tall speed breakers need care. It is 2,070 mm long, with 1,413 mm between the axles. It carries 14.5 L of fuel.
Equipment includes a digital instrument console, an LED headlamp, turn-by-turn navigation, USB charging port, call and SMS alerts and daytime running lamps. Safety equipment includes traction control and low fuel indicator. It has two riding modes: Rain and Road.
The manufacturer's warranty is 2 years/Unlimited kms. For the Triumph Speed Twin 1200, Mechiee offers a fixed ₹9,999 doorstep service.
It is best suited to relaxed riding and unhurried weekend trips. With this much performance, it is better as a step-up bike than a first bike.
Its chain drive needs regular cleaning, lubrication and slack adjustment.
