The Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS is a motorcycle from Triumph. It is currently on sale. With a 1,160 cc engine it sits in the big-bike, 800 cc-plus class.
Power comes from a 1,160 cc three-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that makes 180.5 bhp at 10,750 rpm and 128 Nm of torque at 8,750 rpm. Peak torque comes high up, at 8,750 rpm, so it rewards revving. Its bore is wider than its stroke (90 mm x 60.8 mm), a short-stroke layout that generally favours higher revs. Divide power by kerb weight and it has about 920 PS per tonne; by that measure, its performance is at superbike level and rewards an experienced rider. The claimed top speed is 230 km/h. It has electric start.
It has a 6-speed manual gearbox with a 1-down, 5-up shift pattern, and a chain carries drive to the rear wheel. Its slipper clutch lightens the lever and stops the rear wheel hopping when you downshift hard.
It is built around an aluminium twin spar frame. At the front, the suspension is Öhlins 43 mm fully adjustable USD forks, 120 mm travel, SmartEC3 OBTi system electronic compression / rebound damping. At the rear, it is Öhlins monoshock RSU with linkage, 120 mm rear wheel travel, SmartEC3 OBTi system electronic compression / rebound damping. Braking is by a disc at the front and a disc at the rear, with dual-channel ABS. ABS on both wheels keeps either tyre from locking under hard braking. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with tubeless tyres — 120/70 - ZR17 at the front and 190/55 - ZR17 at the rear.
The seat is 830 mm off the ground, which is on the tall side, so shorter riders may want to try it first. It weighs 199 kg ready to ride, which is on the heavy side, so moving it by hand takes some effort. Ground clearance is 165 mm — enough for most speed breakers. It is 2,090 mm long, with 1,445 mm between the axles. Its 15.5 L fuel tank and claimed mileage of 18 kmpl work out to roughly 279 km per tankful on paper; real-world range is usually lower.
Equipment includes a digital instrument console, an LED headlamp, USB charging port, call and SMS alerts, distance-to-empty readout, gear position indicator, quickshifter, service due indicator, shift light and engine temperature indicator, among others. Safety equipment includes engine kill switch, side-stand engine cut-off, side-stand warning, hazard light switch, traction control and malfunction indicator. It has four riding modes: Sport, Road, Rain and Track and Rider.
Warranty terms: Unlimited km or 2 years. For the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS, Mechiee offers a fixed ₹11,999 doorstep service.
With this much performance, it is better as a step-up bike than a first bike.
Recommended tyre pressures are 34 psi front and 42 psi rear, solo or with a pillion. Its chain drive needs regular cleaning, lubrication and slack adjustment.
