The Triumph Tiger 1200 is an adventure tourer motorcycle from Triumph. It is currently on sale. Adventure bikes are built to travel long distances on good and bad roads alike, typically with long-travel suspension and an upright riding position. With a 1,160 cc engine it sits in the big-bike, 800 cc-plus class.
Power comes from a 1,160 cc three-cylinder liquid-cooled fuel-injected engine that makes 150 PS at 9,000 rpm and 130 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. Its bore is wider than its stroke (90 mm x 60.7 mm), a short-stroke layout that generally favours higher revs. Divide power by kerb weight and it has about 610 PS per tonne; by that measure, its performance is at superbike level and rewards an experienced rider. The claimed top speed is 220 km/h. It has electric start.
It has a 6-speed manual gearbox with a 1-down, 5-up shift pattern, and a shaft carries drive to the rear wheel. It uses a wet multi-plate clutch.
Suspension is by showa 49 mm, semi-active damping USD forks at the front and showa semi-active damping monoshock at the rear. Braking is by twin 320 mm discs at the front and a 282 mm disc at the rear, with dual-channel ABS. ABS on both wheels keeps either tyre from locking under hard braking. It rides on 19-inch front and 18-inch rear alloy wheels with tubeless tyres — 120/70-19 at the front and 150/70-18 at the rear.
The seat is 850 mm off the ground, which is on the tall side, so shorter riders may want to try it first. It weighs 246 kg ready to ride, which is heavy, so parking and tight U-turns need care. Ground clearance is 200 mm — plenty for broken roads and tall speed breakers. It is 2,245 mm long, with 1,560 mm between the axles. Its 20 L fuel tank and claimed mileage of 18-19.6 kmpl work out to roughly 392 km per tankful on paper; real-world range is usually lower.
Equipment includes a digital instrument console, an LED headlamp, call and SMS alerts, gear position indicator, cruise control, quickshifter, daytime running lamps and windscreen. Safety equipment includes engine kill switch, traction control and low fuel indicator. It has five riding modes: Rain, Road, Off-Road, Configurable Rider and Sports.
The manufacturer's warranty is 3 years. For the Triumph Tiger 1200, Mechiee offers a fixed ₹11,999 doorstep service.
It is best suited to long-distance touring and roads of mixed quality. Its tall seat suits taller riders best. With this much performance, it is better as a step-up bike than a first bike.
Recommended tyre pressures are 32 psi front and 42 psi rear riding alone, and 34 psi front and 42 psi rear with a pillion. Its shaft drive is nearly maintenance-free; the final-drive oil is changed at long intervals.
