The KTM 890 Duke R is a motorcycle from KTM. It is currently on sale. With a 889 cc engine it sits in the big-bike, 800 cc-plus class.
Power comes from a 889 cc twin-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that makes 119 bhp at 9,250 rpm and 99 Nm of torque at 7,750 rpm. Its bore is wider than its stroke (90.7 mm x 68.8 mm), a short-stroke layout that generally favours higher revs. Divide power by kerb weight and it has about 670 PS per tonne; by that measure, its performance is at superbike level and rewards an experienced rider. The claimed top speed is 230 km/h. It has electric start.
It has a 6-speed manual gearbox with a 1-down, 5-up shift pattern, and a chain carries drive to the rear wheel. Its slipper clutch lightens the lever and stops the rear wheel hopping when you downshift hard.
It is built around a Chromium-Molybdenum-Steel frame. Suspension is by WP APEX 43 forks at the front and WP APEX - monoshock at the rear. Braking is by a disc at the front and a disc at the rear, with dual-channel ABS. ABS on both wheels keeps either tyre from locking under hard braking. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with tubeless tyres — 120/70 - ZR17 at the front and 180/55 - ZR17 at the rear.
The seat is 834 mm off the ground, which is on the tall side, so shorter riders may want to try it first. It weighs 180 kg ready to ride, which is on the heavy side, so moving it by hand takes some effort. Ground clearance is 206 mm — plenty for broken roads and tall speed breakers. The wheelbase is 1,482 mm. Its 14 L fuel tank and claimed mileage of 21 kmpl work out to roughly 294 km per tankful on paper; real-world range is usually lower.
Equipment includes a digital instrument console, an LED headlamp, distance-to-empty readout, gear position indicator, service due indicator, shift light, engine temperature indicator, low fuel indicator and low oil indicator. Safety equipment includes engine kill switch, side-stand engine cut-off, side-stand warning, hazard light switch, traction control and malfunction indicator. It has three riding modes: Rain, Street and Sport and Track.
The manufacturer's warranty is 50,000 km or 2 years. For the KTM 890 Duke R, Mechiee offers a fixed ₹4,499 doorstep service.
With this much performance, it is better as a step-up bike than a first bike.
Recommended tyre pressures are 33 psi front and 36 psi rear riding alone, and 33 psi front and 38 psi rear with a pillion. Its chain drive needs regular cleaning, lubrication and slack adjustment.
