The KTM 890 Adventure R is a motorcycle from KTM. It is currently on sale. With a 889 cc engine it sits in the big-bike, 800 cc-plus class.
Power comes from a 889 cc twin-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that makes 103 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 100 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. Its stroke is longer than its bore (68.8 mm x 90.7 mm), a long-stroke layout that generally favours low-down pulling power. Divide power by kerb weight and it has about 486 PS per tonne; by that measure, its performance is at superbike level and rewards an experienced rider. The claimed top speed is 210 km/h. It has electric start.
It has a 6-speed manual gearbox with a 1-down, 5-up shift pattern, and a chain carries drive to the rear wheel. Its slipper clutch lightens the lever and stops the rear wheel hopping when you downshift hard.
It is built around a tubular steel frame. Suspension is by WP XPLOR-USD, Ø 48 mm forks at the front and WP xplor PDS shock absorber at the rear. Braking is by a 320 mm disc at the front and a 260 mm disc at the rear, with dual-channel ABS. ABS on both wheels keeps either tyre from locking under hard braking. It rides on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheels with tubeless tyres — 90/90 - 21 at the front and 150/70 - 18 at the rear.
The seat is 880 mm off the ground, which is tall — shorter riders should try it before buying. It weighs 215 kg ready to ride, which is on the heavy side, so moving it by hand takes some effort. Ground clearance is 263 mm — plenty for broken roads and tall speed breakers. The wheelbase is 1,528 mm. Its 20 L fuel tank and claimed mileage of 22.2 kmpl work out to roughly 444 km per tankful on paper; real-world range is usually lower.
Equipment includes 5 " TFT Display, an LED headlamp, USB charging port, call and SMS alerts, distance-to-empty readout, gear position indicator, service due indicator, shift light, engine temperature indicator and low fuel indicator, among others. Safety equipment includes engine kill switch, side-stand engine cut-off, side-stand warning, hazard light switch, traction control and malfunction indicator.
The manufacturer's warranty is 50,000 km or 2 years. For the KTM 890 Adventure R, Mechiee offers a fixed ₹4,499 doorstep service.
Its tall seat suits taller riders best. With this much performance, it is better as a step-up bike than a first bike.
Recommended tyre pressures are 35 psi front and 35 psi rear, solo or with a pillion. Its chain drive needs regular cleaning, lubrication and slack adjustment.
