The Indian Chieftain is a touring motorcycle from Indian Motorcycle. It was launched in 2014 and has since been discontinued. Mechiee still services it at your doorstep. Touring bikes put comfort and carrying capacity first, for long days in the saddle. With a 1,890 cc engine it sits in the big-bike, 800 cc-plus class.
Power comes from a 1,890 cc liquid-cooled fuel-injected engine that makes 173.54 Nm of torque at 3,800 rpm. Peak torque arrives low in the rev range, at 3,800 rpm, which makes it relaxed to ride in traffic. Its bore is wider than its stroke (108 mm x 96.5 mm), a short-stroke layout that generally favours higher revs. It has electric start.
It has a 6-speed manual gearbox, and a chain carries drive to the rear wheel. It uses a wet multi-plate clutch.
At the front, the suspension is TELESCOPIC FORK/119 MM (4.7 IN) - 46MM CARTRIDGE FORKS WITH DUAL RATE SPRINGS. At the rear, it is SINGLE SHOCK W/AIR ADJUST / 114 MM. Braking is by twin 320 mm discs at the front and a 298 mm disc at the rear. It rides on 19-inch front and 16-inch rear alloy wheels with tubeless tyres — 130/60-19 at the front and 180/60-16 at the rear.
The seat is 673 mm off the ground, which is low and makes it easy to put your feet down. It weighs 378 kg ready to ride, which is heavy, so parking and tight U-turns need care. Ground clearance is 130 mm — low, so take speed breakers and steep ramps slowly. It is 2,503 mm long, with 1,668 mm between the axles. It carries 22.7 L of fuel.
Equipment includes an analogue and digital instrument console, a halogen headlamp and windscreen. Safety equipment includes low fuel indicator.
For the Indian Chieftain, Mechiee offers a fixed ₹21,999 doorstep service.
It is best suited to long-distance touring and roads of mixed quality. Its low seat also makes it approachable for shorter and newer riders.
Its chain drive needs regular cleaning, lubrication and slack adjustment.
