The Hero Splendor Plus is a commuter motorcycle from Hero MotoCorp. It is currently on sale. Commuter bikes are built for everyday riding: economical, easy to handle and inexpensive to run and maintain. With a 97.2 cc engine it sits in the entry-level 100–110 cc commuter class.
Power comes from a 97.2 cc single-cylinder air-cooled fuel-injected engine that makes 5.9 kW at 8,000 rpm and 8.05 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. Divide power by kerb weight and it has about 72 PS per tonne; by that measure, there is enough go for confident city riding and relaxed highway cruising. The claimed top speed is 85 km/h. It has electric start.
It has a 4-speed manual gearbox with an all-up shift pattern, and a chain carries drive to the rear wheel. It uses a wet multi-plate clutch.
It is built around a tubular double cradle frame. At the front, the suspension is telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers. At the rear, it is swingarm with 5-step adjustable hydraulic shock absorbers. Braking is by a disc at the front and a drum at the rear, with a combined braking system. Using the rear brake lever also applies some front brake, which shortens stops for riders who lean on the rear brake. It rides on 18-inch alloy wheels with tubeless tyres — 80/100-18 M/C 47P at the front and 80/100-18 M/C 54P at the rear.
The seat is 785 mm off the ground, which is about average and suits most riders. It weighs 112 kg ready to ride, light enough to push around and park easily. Ground clearance is 165 mm — enough for most speed breakers. It is 2,000 mm long, with 1,236 mm between the axles. Its 9.8 L fuel tank and claimed mileage of 70 kmpl with E20 fuel work out to roughly 686 km per tankful on paper; real-world range is usually lower.
Equipment includes an analogue instrument console, an LED headlamp, i3S technology, 5-step adjustable rear suspension and xSENS FI technology. Safety equipment includes side-stand engine cut-off.
The manufacturer's warranty is 5 years or 70,000 km, whichever comes first. It comes with 5 free services, the first due at 500-750 km or 60 days. It is sold in 3 variants (Splendor+, Splendor+ Xtec and Splendor+ Xtec 2.0). For the Hero Splendor Plus, Mechiee offers a fixed ₹899 doorstep service.
It is best suited to daily commuting and riders who put running costs first. Its low seat also makes it approachable for shorter and newer riders. Its gentle performance makes it a forgiving choice for a first bike.
Recommended tyre pressures are 25 psi front and 28 psi rear riding alone, and 25 psi front and 41 psi rear with a pillion. The published service intervals are 1st service at 500-750 km or 60 days, 2nd service at 3000-3500 km or 160 days, 3rd service at 6000-6500 km or 260 days, 4th service at 9000-9500 km or 360 days and 5th service at 12000-12500 km or 460 days. Its chain drive needs regular cleaning, lubrication and slack adjustment.
