The Triumph Bonneville T120 is a cafe racer motorcycle from Triumph. It is currently on sale. Café racers take their look from 1960s British racers: a low handlebar, a slim tank and minimal bodywork. With a 1,200 cc engine it sits in the big-bike, 800 cc-plus class.
Power comes from a 1,200 cc twin-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that makes 78.9 bhp at 6,550 rpm and 105 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. Peak torque arrives low in the rev range, at 3,500 rpm, which makes it relaxed to ride in traffic. Its bore is wider than its stroke (97.6 mm x 80 mm), a short-stroke layout that generally favours higher revs. Divide power by kerb weight and it has about 339 PS per tonne; by that measure, it is genuinely fast, well beyond everyday traffic speeds. The claimed top speed is 190 km/h. It has electric start.
It has a 6-speed manual gearbox with a 1-down, 5-up shift pattern, and a chain carries drive to the rear wheel. It uses a wet multi-plate clutch.
Its frame is tubular steel, with twin cradles. Suspension is by Ø41 mm cartridge forks at the front and twin RSU’s, with pre-load adjustment rear suspension at the rear. Braking is by a disc at the front and a disc at the rear, with dual-channel ABS. ABS on both wheels keeps either tyre from locking under hard braking. It rides on 18-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheels — 100/90 - 18 at the front and 150/70 - R17 at the rear.
The seat is 790 mm off the ground, which is about average and suits most riders. It weighs 236 kg ready to ride, which is heavy, so parking and tight U-turns need care. Ground clearance is 140 mm — adequate, though tall speed breakers need care. It is 2,120 mm long, with 1,450 mm between the axles. Its 14.5 L fuel tank and claimed mileage of 21-22.2 kmpl work out to roughly 322 km per tankful on paper; real-world range is usually lower.
Equipment includes a semi-digital instrument console, an LED headlamp, USB charging port, distance-to-empty readout, gear position indicator, service due indicator, shift light, engine temperature indicator, low fuel indicator and low oil indicator. Safety equipment includes engine kill switch, side-stand engine cut-off, hazard light switch, traction control and malfunction indicator. It has a rain and Road riding mode.
Warranty terms: Unlimited km or 2 years. For the Triumph Bonneville T120, Mechiee offers a fixed ₹9,999 doorstep service.
It is best suited to riders who want retro style as much as performance. With this much performance, it is better as a step-up bike than a first bike.
Recommended tyre pressures are 32 psi front and 36 psi rear, solo or with a pillion. Its chain drive needs regular cleaning, lubrication and slack adjustment.
