The Harley-Davidson X440 is a cruiser motorcycle from Harley-Davidson. It was launched in 2023 and is still on sale. Cruisers are built for relaxed riding, typically with a low seat, a laid-back posture and an engine that pulls from low revs. With a 440 cc engine it sits in the 250–450 cc class.
Power comes from a 440 cc single-cylinder air- and oil-cooled fuel-injected engine that makes 27.37 PS at 6,000 rpm and 38 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Peak torque arrives low in the rev range, at 4,000 rpm, which makes it relaxed to ride in traffic. Its stroke is longer than its bore (79.6 mm x 88.4 mm), a long-stroke layout that generally favours low-down pulling power. Divide power by kerb weight and it has about 144 PS per tonne; by that measure, it is lively, with easy overtakes and relaxed highway speeds. The claimed top speed is 137 km/h. It has electric start.
It has a 6-speed manual gearbox with a 1-down, 5-up shift pattern, and a chain carries drive to the rear wheel. Its slipper clutch lightens the lever and stops the rear wheel hopping when you downshift hard.
It is built around a trellis frame. Suspension is by KYB USD 43 mm dual cartridge forks at the front and gas filled twin shocks, 7-step preload adjustable at the rear. Braking is by a 320 mm disc at the front and a 240 mm disc at the rear, with dual-channel ABS. ABS on both wheels keeps either tyre from locking under hard braking. It rides on 18-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels with tubeless tyres — 100/90-18 at the front and 140/70-17 at the rear.
The seat is 805 mm off the ground, which is about average and suits most riders. It weighs 190.5 kg ready to ride, which is on the heavy side, so moving it by hand takes some effort. Ground clearance is 170 mm — enough for most speed breakers. It is 2,168 mm long, with 1,418 mm between the axles. Its 13.5 L fuel tank and claimed mileage of 35 kmpl work out to roughly 473 km per tankful on paper; real-world range is usually lower.
Equipment includes a digital instrument console, an LED headlamp, turn-by-turn navigation, USB charging port, distance-to-empty readout, gear position indicator, daytime running lamps, real-time mileage indicator and service due indicator. Safety equipment includes side-stand warning, engine kill switch, hazard light switch, low fuel indicator and malfunction indicator.
The manufacturer's warranty is 5 years or 70,000 km. It comes with 3 free services, the first due at 500-750 km or 60 days. For the Harley-Davidson X440, Mechiee offers a fixed ₹2,999 doorstep service.
It is best suited to relaxed riding and unhurried weekend trips.
Recommended tyre pressures are 33 psi front and 33 psi rear, solo or with a pillion. The published service intervals are 1st service at 500-750 km or 60 days, 2nd service at 5000 km or 180 days and 3rd service at 10000 km or 365 days. Its chain drive needs regular cleaning, lubrication and slack adjustment.
