The Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight is a cruiser motorcycle from Harley-Davidson. It has been discontinued (production ended around 2023). Mechiee still services it at your doorstep. Cruisers are built for relaxed riding, typically with a low seat, a laid-back posture and an engine that pulls from low revs. With a 1,202 cc engine it sits in the big-bike, 800 cc-plus class.
Power comes from a 1,202 cc twin-cylinder air-cooled engine that makes 66.61 PS at 6,000 rpm and 95 Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm. Peak torque arrives low in the rev range, at 3,000 rpm, which makes it relaxed to ride in traffic. Its stroke is longer than its bore (88.9 mm x 96.8 mm), a long-stroke layout that generally favours low-down pulling power. Divide power by kerb weight and it has about 256 PS per tonne; by that measure, it is genuinely fast, well beyond everyday traffic speeds. The claimed top speed is 177 km/h. It has electric start.
It has a 5-speed manual gearbox with a 1-down, 4-up shift pattern, and a chain carries drive to the rear wheel. It uses a wet multi-plate clutch.
At the front, the suspension is 49 mm fork set free valve right hand and cartridge style left hand. At the rear, it is variable rate spring over 36mm piston nitrogen gas charged emulsion style shock with thread style preload adjustment. Braking is by twin discs at the front and a disc at the rear, with dual-channel ABS. ABS on both wheels keeps either tyre from locking under hard braking. It rides on 16-inch alloy wheels with tubeless tyres — 130/90B16 73H at the front and 150/80B16 77H at the rear.
The seat is 710 mm off the ground, which is low and makes it easy to put your feet down. It weighs 260 kg ready to ride, which is heavy, so parking and tight U-turns need care. Ground clearance is 103 mm — low, so take speed breakers and steep ramps slowly. It is 2,255 mm long, with 1,520 mm between the axles. Its 7.9 L fuel tank and claimed mileage of 30 kmpl work out to roughly 237 km per tankful on paper; real-world range is usually lower.
Equipment includes daytime running lamps, low oil indicator and low battery indicator. Safety equipment includes low fuel indicator and low oil indicator.
The manufacturer's warranty is 2 years / Unlimited kms. For the Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight, Mechiee offers a fixed ₹9,999 doorstep service.
It is best suited to relaxed riding and unhurried weekend trips. Its low seat also makes it approachable for shorter and newer riders. With this much performance, it is better as a step-up bike than a first bike.
Its chain drive needs regular cleaning, lubrication and slack adjustment.
