The TVS Sport is a commuter motorcycle from TVS Motor. It was launched in 2007 and is still on sale. Commuter bikes are built for everyday riding: economical, easy to handle and inexpensive to run and maintain. With a 109.7 cc engine it sits in the entry-level 100–110 cc commuter class.
Power comes from a 109.7 cc single-cylinder air-cooled fuel-injected engine that makes 8.19 PS at 7,350 rpm and 8.7 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. Peak torque arrives low in the rev range, at 4,500 rpm, which makes it relaxed to ride in traffic. Its bore is wider than its stroke (53.5 mm x 48.8 mm), a short-stroke layout that generally favours higher revs. Divide power by kerb weight and it has about 73 PS per tonne; by that measure, there is enough go for confident city riding and relaxed highway cruising. The claimed top speed is 90 km/h. It has both electric and kick start.
It has a 9-speed manual gearbox with an all-up shift pattern, and a chain carries drive to the rear wheel. It uses a wet multi-plate clutch.
It is built around a single cradle tubular frame. Suspension is by telescopic oil damped forks at the front and 5 step adjustable hydraulic shock absorber at the rear. Braking is by a 130 mm drum at the front and a 110 mm drum at the rear, with a combined braking system (SBT). Using the rear brake lever also applies some front brake, which shortens stops for riders who lean on the rear brake. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels — 2.75-17 at the front and 3.0-17 at the rear.
The seat is 790 mm off the ground, which is about average and suits most riders. It weighs 112 kg ready to ride, light enough to push around and park easily. Ground clearance is 175 mm — enough for most speed breakers. It is 1,950 mm long, with 1,236 mm between the axles. Its 10 L fuel tank and claimed mileage of 80 kmpl work out to roughly 800 km per tankful on paper; real-world range is usually lower.
Equipment includes an analogue instrument console, a halogen headlamp, USB charging port and daytime running lamps. Safety equipment includes side-stand warning, engine kill switch, low fuel indicator and malfunction indicator.
The manufacturer's warranty is 5 years/60000 km. It comes with 4 free services, the first due at 500-750 km or 30 days. For the TVS Sport, Mechiee offers a fixed ₹899 doorstep service.
It is best suited to daily commuting and riders who put running costs first. Its gentle performance makes it a forgiving choice for a first bike.
Recommended tyre pressures are 25 psi front and 28 psi rear riding alone, and 25 psi front and 32 psi rear with a pillion. The published service intervals are 1st service at 500-750 km or 30 days, 2nd service at 2500 - 3000 km or 90 days, 3rd service at 5000-6000 km or 180 days and 4th service at 8500-9000 km or 270 days. Its chain drive needs regular cleaning, lubrication and slack adjustment.
