The Yamaha R3 is a sports motorcycle from Yamaha. It has been discontinued. Mechiee still services it at your doorstep. Sports bikes put performance first, usually with a sportier riding position and sharper handling than everyday bikes. With a 321 cc engine it sits in the 250–450 cc class.
Power comes from a 321 cc twin-cylinder liquid-cooled fuel-injected engine that makes 42 PS at 10,750 rpm and 29.5 Nm of torque at 9,000 rpm. Peak torque comes high up, at 9,000 rpm, so it rewards revving. Its bore is wider than its stroke (68 mm x 44.1 mm), a short-stroke layout that generally favours higher revs. Divide power by kerb weight and it has about 249 PS per tonne; by that measure, it is lively, with easy overtakes and relaxed highway speeds. The claimed top speed is 170 km/h. It has electric start.
It has a 6-speed manual gearbox, and a chain carries drive to the rear wheel. It uses a wet multi-plate clutch.
It is built around a diamond frame. Suspension is by telescopic upside down fork (USD Fork), 37 mm inner tube at the front and swingarm at the rear. Braking is by a 298 mm disc at the front and a 220 mm disc at the rear, with dual-channel ABS. ABS on both wheels keeps either tyre from locking under hard braking. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with tubeless tyres — 110/70-17 at the front and 140/70-17 at the rear.
The seat is 780 mm off the ground, which is about average and suits most riders. It weighs 169 kg ready to ride. Ground clearance is 160 mm — enough for most speed breakers. It is 2,090 mm long, with 1,380 mm between the axles. It carries 14 L of fuel.
Equipment includes a digital instrument console, an LED headlamp, gear position indicator, daytime running lamps, real-time mileage indicator, service due indicator and windscreen. Safety equipment includes side-stand warning, engine kill switch, hazard light switch, low fuel indicator and malfunction indicator.
The manufacturer's warranty is 2 years or 30,000 km. For the Yamaha R3, Mechiee offers a fixed ₹2,199 doorstep service.
It is best suited to riders who want performance and sharp handling. Its low seat also makes it approachable for shorter and newer riders.
Its chain drive needs regular cleaning, lubrication and slack adjustment.
