The TVS XL100 is a moped from TVS Motor. It is currently on sale. Mopeds are light, simple and inexpensive runabouts for short trips. With a 99.7 cc engine it sits in the everyday 100–110 cc scooter class.
Power comes from a 99.7 cc single-cylinder air-cooled fuel-injected engine that makes 3.20 kW at 6,000 rpm and 6.5 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. Peak torque arrives low in the rev range, at 3,500 rpm, which makes it relaxed to ride in traffic. Its bore is wider than its stroke (51.0 mm x 48.8 mm), a short-stroke layout that generally favours higher revs. Divide power by kerb weight and it has about 49 PS per tonne; by that measure, performance is modest — fine for city traffic and steady cruising, less so for quick highway overtakes. The claimed top speed is 65 km/h. It has both electric and kick start.
It has a 1-speed manual gearbox, and a chain carries drive to the rear wheel. It uses a centrifugal clutch.
It is built around a welded tubular step through construction frame. Suspension is by telescopic hydraulic spring type with damping at the front and swing arm with hydraulic shocks at the rear. Braking is by a 110 mm drum at the front and a 110 mm drum at the rear, with a combined braking system (SBT). Using the rear brake lever also applies some front brake, which shortens stops for riders who lean on the rear brake. It rides on 16-inch alloy wheels, 2.5 x 16 at both ends.
The seat is 787 mm off the ground, which is about average and suits most riders. It weighs 89 kg ready to ride, light enough to push around and park easily. Ground clearance is 158 mm — adequate, though tall speed breakers need care. It is 1,895 mm long, with 1,228 mm between the axles. Its 4 L fuel tank and claimed mileage of 53.5-80 kmpl work out to roughly 320 km per tankful on paper; real-world range is usually lower.
Equipment includes an analogue instrument console, a halogen headlamp, USB charging port and daytime running lamps. Safety equipment includes engine kill switch, low fuel indicator and malfunction indicator.
The manufacturer's warranty is 3 years/36000 kms. For the TVS XL100, Mechiee offers a fixed ₹899 doorstep service.
It is best suited to city errands and riders who would rather not shift gears. Its low seat also makes it approachable for shorter and newer riders. Its gentle performance makes it a forgiving choice for a first bike.
Its chain drive needs regular cleaning, lubrication and slack adjustment.
