The KTM 390 Enduro R is an off-road motorcycle from KTM. It is currently on sale. Off-road bikes are built for dirt trails, with long-travel suspension and knobbly tyres. With a 398.7 cc engine it sits in the 250–450 cc class.
Power comes from a 398.7 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled fuel-injected engine that makes 46 PS at 8,500 rpm and 39 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. Its bore is wider than its stroke (89 mm x 64 mm), a short-stroke layout that generally favours higher revs. Divide power by kerb weight and it has about 260 PS per tonne; by that measure, it is genuinely fast, well beyond everyday traffic speeds. It has electric start.
It has a 6-speed manual gearbox with a 1-down, 5-up shift pattern, and a chain carries drive to the rear wheel.
At the front, the suspension is full adjustable wp apex 43 mm inverted forks, travel 230 mm. At the rear, it is wp apex adjustable shock, travel 230 mm. Braking is by a 285 mm disc at the front and a 240 mm disc at the rear, with dual-channel ABS. ABS on both wheels keeps either tyre from locking under hard braking. It rides on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheels — 90/90-21 at the front and 140/80-18 at the rear.
The seat is 860 mm off the ground, which is on the tall side, so shorter riders may want to try it first. It weighs 177 kg ready to ride, which is on the heavy side, so moving it by hand takes some effort. Ground clearance is 253 mm — plenty for broken roads and tall speed breakers. The wheelbase is 1,470 mm. It carries 9 L of fuel.
Equipment includes a digital instrument console, an LED headlamp, turn-by-turn navigation, USB charging port, call and SMS alerts, distance-to-empty readout, gear position indicator, mobile app connectivity, quickshifter and daytime running lamps, among others. Safety equipment includes side-stand warning, engine kill switch, hazard light switch, traction control and low fuel indicator. It has two riding modes: Off-Road and Street.
For the KTM 390 Enduro R, Mechiee offers a fixed ₹2,199 doorstep service.
It is best suited to trail riding and rough tracks. Its tall seat suits taller riders best. With this much performance, it is better as a step-up bike than a first bike.
Its chain drive needs regular cleaning, lubrication and slack adjustment.
