The Honda Dio is a scooter from Honda. It is currently on sale. Scooters are made for easy city riding: automatic, step-through and usually with storage under the seat. With a 109.2 cc engine it sits in the everyday 100–110 cc scooter class.
Power comes from a 109.2 cc single-cylinder air-cooled fuel-injected engine that makes 7.95 PS at 8,000 rpm and 9.03 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. Its stroke is longer than its bore (47 mm x 63.121 mm), a long-stroke layout that generally favours low-down pulling power. Divide power by kerb weight and it has about 75 PS per tonne; by that measure, there is enough go for confident city riding and relaxed highway cruising. The claimed top speed is 83 km/h. It has both electric and kick start.
It uses an automatic (CVT) transmission, so there are no gears or clutch to work — you twist the throttle and go.
It is built around an underbone frame. Suspension is by telescopic forks at the front and unit swing at the rear. Braking is by a 130 mm drum at the front and a 130 mm drum at the rear, with a combined braking system (CBS). Using the rear brake lever also applies some front brake, which shortens stops for riders who lean on the rear brake. It rides on 12-inch front and 10-inch rear sheet metal wheels with tubeless tyres — 90/90-12 at the front and 90/100-10 at the rear.
The seat is 765 mm off the ground, which is low and makes it easy to put your feet down. It weighs 106 kg ready to ride, light enough to push around and park easily. Ground clearance is 160 mm — enough for most speed breakers. It is 1,808 mm long, with 1,260 mm between the axles. Its 5.3 L fuel tank and claimed mileage of 48 kmpl work out to roughly 254 km per tankful on paper; real-world range is usually lower.
Equipment includes an analogue instrument console, a halogen headlamp, automatic start-stop system, silent start, seat opening switch, under-seat storage, front storage box, helmet hooks (2) and USB charging port (optional). Safety equipment includes parking brake.
The manufacturer's warranty is 3 years or 36,000 km. It comes with 3 free services, the first due at 750-1000 km or 15-30 days. For the Honda Dio, Mechiee offers a fixed ₹899 doorstep service.
It is best suited to city errands and riders who would rather not shift gears. Its low seat also makes it approachable for shorter and newer riders.
Recommended tyre pressures are 22 psi front and 29 psi rear riding alone, and 22 psi front and 36 psi rear with a pillion. The published service intervals are 1st service at 750-1000 km or 15-30 days, 2nd service at 5500-6000 km or 165-180 days and 3rd service at 11500-12000 km or 350-365 days. Its chain drive needs regular cleaning, lubrication and slack adjustment.
