The Aprilia SR 160 is a scooter from Aprilia. It was launched in 2020 and is still on sale. Scooters are made for easy city riding: automatic, step-through and usually with storage under the seat. With a 160 cc engine it sits in the larger, 150 cc-plus scooter class.
Power comes from a 160 cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine that makes 11.11 bhp at 7,100 rpm and 13.44 Nm of torque at 5,300 rpm. Its stroke is longer than its bore (58 mm x 60.6 mm), a long-stroke layout that generally favours low-down pulling power. Divide power by kerb weight and it has about 95 PS per tonne; by that measure, there is enough go for confident city riding and relaxed highway cruising. The claimed top speed is 100 km/h. It has both electric and kick start.
It uses an automatic (CVT) transmission, so there are no gears or clutch to work — you twist the throttle and go.
It is built around a tubular chassis with open single cradle frame. Suspension is by telescopic forks at the front and hydraulic shock absorber with five position adjustable at the rear. Braking is by a disc at the front and a drum at the rear, with single-channel ABS. Single-channel ABS works on the front wheel, which does most of the stopping. It rides on 14-inch alloy wheels with tubeless tyres, 120/70 - 14 at both ends.
The seat is 780 mm off the ground, which is about average and suits most riders. It weighs 118 kg ready to ride, light enough to push around and park easily. Ground clearance is 169 mm — enough for most speed breakers. It is 1,985 mm long, with 1,365 mm between the axles. Its 6 L fuel tank and claimed mileage of 35 kmpl work out to roughly 210 km per tankful on paper; real-world range is usually lower.
Equipment includes a digital instrument console, an LED headlamp, USB charging port, distance-to-empty readout, slipper clutch and adjustable rear preload. Safety equipment includes hazard light switch and automatic headlamp on.
The manufacturer's warranty is 5 years/60000 kms. It comes with 4 free services, the first due at 250-750 km or 15-30 days. For the Aprilia SR 160, Mechiee offers a fixed ₹899 doorstep service.
It is best suited to city errands and riders who would rather not shift gears. Its low seat also makes it approachable for shorter and newer riders.
Recommended tyre pressures are 26 psi front and 29 psi rear riding alone, and 26 psi front and 32 psi rear with a pillion. The published service intervals are 1st service at 250-750 km or 15-30 days, 2nd service at 2500-3000 km or 75-90 days, 3rd service at 5500-6000 km or 165-180 days and 4th service at 8500-9000 km or 255-270 days.
